08 / Vertical living
Location: Lisbon, Portugal

More than half of the world’s population now live in increasingly dense cities. Burgeoning population growth and wild urban sprawl has constituted serious problems, especially in developing countries with a huge demand in housing stock. Unsustainable land consumption as well as several other issues associated with city expansion and it's negative environmental effects will eventually force us to find new solutions for housing. Considering the ideas of co-living, I put forward a proposal for narrow plots in modern cities such as Lisbon. To achieve this goal, I’ve designed two intertwined apartments with vertically arranged functional areas. Such configuration of flats allows for creating an inner courtyard - an area both inside and outside of the building. It enables circulation of air and residents at the core, creating an opportunity for casual encounters.
